Our SPF formulas are water resistant for up to 40 minutes, safe for children of all ages, thoroughly moisturize while they protect and are reminiscent of a holiday luau. These are natural, physical barrier sunscreens.
Take care of your skin naturally with high-quality, all natural Sun protection and after sun (and everyday) care! Badger SPF is highly rated for safety and effectiveness by the Environmental Working Group! You'll find us at the top of the chart!
We're also proud to tell you that our UVA protection is fantastic on both our SPF 30 and SPF 15 products! A "Critical Wavelength" measurement of 370 nm is considered to be outstanding - Badger SPF30 is 377nm.
- UVA: Long-wave solar rays of 320-400 nm. Penetrates the skin more deeply (into the Dermis, 2nd layer of skin). Causes photoaging, actinic damage (wrinkled, leathery, variously pigmented skin), and skin cancers including melanomas. Same strength year-round.
- UVB: Short-Wave solar rays of 290-320 nm. Penetrates only the epidermis, causes sunburn and considered to be the main cause of basal and squamous cell carcinomas, as well as a significant factor in melanomas. Different strengths depending on Sun's location, and can be lessened to deflected by clouds.
- UVC: Reflected by the Ozone layer, does not reach the Earth.
- Critical Wavelength: an international rating system for UVA protection. The point at which the sunscreen allows 10% of the rays to penetrate is defined as Critical Wavelength. A sunscreen with a critical wavelength over 370nm is considered by the FDA to provide excellent UVA protection. Badger SPF30 Sunscreen has a critical wavelength of 377nm.

Badger SPF FAQ
- From Badger's Website: Why is Badger sunscreen formulated with citrus essential oils? Many customers have asked why our sunscreen has citrus oils in the formulation when citrus oils are known to be photosensitizing. The simple answer is that we use very small quantities of the citrus essential oils and the percentages are so low that the oils are not considered photosensitizing. In addition, Lime Essential Oil, which is of particular concern, is no longer photosensitizing when it is Steam Distilled. We only use Steam Distilled Lime Essential Oil. In the very low percentages that we use (>.032% each by weight), the citrus essential oils can safely be used to enhance the fragrance of the product without any photosensitivity concern.
- What is Badger's zinc oxide coated with? Badger uses a triethoxycaprylylsilane coated zinc oxide. Triethoxycaprylylsilane is derived from silica and has an EWG safety score of 0 (scale = 0-10, where zero is the safest). The formal name for triethoxycaprylylsilane coated zinc oxide is Z-COTE® HP1.
