USPS Update May 2009: The U.S. Postal Service only irradiates Federal Mail.
Good news. Our USPS Northern Region Sales Rep relayed that USPS now only irradiate parcels marked for Federal buildings (all mail sent to the White House, Congressional offices, and federal government offices in the 202-205 Zip Code exchanges). Thus the U.S. Post Office does not perform irradiation in any of their processing facilities that service non-federal/residential customers. None of the products that are shipped to residential addresses (via USPS mail) would encounter any irradiation process. Our sales rep confirmed this information with her Manager from USPS Headquarters.
Can I ship my nutritional supplements (PRL products) via USPS now?
Yes. In light of the new irradiation information. We support shipping PRL products with the United States Postal Service (USPS) now.
I'm a little confused. What shipping methods are safe to ship my nutritional supplements?
Previously, we only supported UPS - as a safe (irradiation-free) shipping service. Now (effective May 1st 2009) we support both UPS (United Parcel Service) and USPS (United States Postal Service) as safe shipping methods (as long as the shipping destination is a residential address). UPS does not irradiate any of their mail and USPS only irradiates mail sent to government offices. We offer both UPS and USPS mail services here at Pure Complexions.
Why is irradiation a concern?
We cater to people with very high standards for purity and quality. According to the EPA, irradiated mail is exposed to a very high dose of radiation (56 kilograys), which is 2 million times more radiation than a chest x-ray. Irradiation shatters cellular components, including plant enzymes. Our clients understand the health benefits of using non-heated enzyme rich nutritional supplements. If these same nutrient rich/enzyme rich products are subjected to irradiation beams - it would dramatically reduce the therapeutic potential and totally defeat the purpose of buying these higher quality products. The PRL products that we carry are guaranteed to be irradiation-free when they leave our store. To read more about irradiation, the following EPA pages are very informational: Food Irradiation, Mail Irradiation.
Why does the U.S. Post Office irradiate government mail? And where can read their latest update on the topic? The U.S. Post Office began irradiating mail (as a precaution) after October 2001 when deadly anthrax spores were found in some mail sent to news agencies and offices of U.S. Congressmen. Mail irradiation kills the anthrax organism, thus protecting the recipient from potential disease-causing germs. Here is the link to Latest USPS Irradiation Fact Update
PRL Product Related Questions:
Are the "nanized" herbs used in PRL products the same as the synthetic nano particles you read about on EWG's Skin Deep Report? No, not at all. In this case, nanization is a PRL term used to describe the unique way they naturally breakdown some of their ingredients (to make them more bioavailable). It is not the same potentially dangerous "nano particle" concept you read about on Skin Deep. See below for details. PRL has been using the word "nanization" long before it was attached to such negative connotations.
What is a "nanized" herbal preparation? The word "nano" means very, very small. A nanized preparation contains premier quality herbs which have been nanized or pre-digested into very, very small particles which make them extremely bio-available. Even those with poor digestion can rapidly absorb the "nanized" phytonutrients of the herbal complexes because they are so readily assimilable. The Nano-Detox preparations really demonstrate the power of the old saying, "it's not what you take, but what you absorb that makes the difference." Many people can feel the effect of taking a Nano-Detox tincture within minutes. This immediate effect is very important in pain control, where absorption of key nutrients is critical to settle the inflammatory process which often initiates pain.
What is the Nanization Process? The herbal complexes in the Nano-Detox preparations have gone through a proprietary process to break down their components into "nanized" phytonutrients. This means that the herbal complex has been micro-digested into extremely small, highly bio-available particles using our special fermentation process. We use unique, potent multi-strain probiotic colonies to assist in our nanization process. This allows rapid, unmatched bio-available cellular delivery of the herbal complex's healing factors, unlike any other product. Most people feel the effects the first time they take them.
Why use an alcoholic tincture? Top grade, organic alcohol is nature's perfect preservative. Its indigenous vasodilative properties function as a perfect transporter of our super nanized phytonutrients into the blood to deliver almost immediate uptake, unparalleled by ordinary supplements.
For centuries, Oriental Medicine has known that nutrients preserved in alcohol directly target the liver, getting faster, deeper response than when no alcohol is used. Tinctures preserved in alchol have been used effectively for centuries. In contrast, tinctures made with glycerine base cannot deliver the same effect as tinctures with an alcohol media. In addition, over time, nutrients degrade in the glycerine, slowly losing their potency.
Only the Best We use only organic grain alcohol: derived from corn, free of pesticides, chemotoxins and gluten. (Avoid tinctures with American alcohol since they are typically contaminated with chemotoxins.)
Want to avoid alcohol? In a typical dose (1/2 tsp) of tincture, you receive about 1/90 of an ounce of alcohol. For those who want to avoid alcohol but still get the full benefits of the tincture, simply place a dose of tincture (usually 1/2 tsp) in a cup and add 1/2 cup of very hot water. Wait for 5 to 10 minutes for the alcohol to gas off. (Water boils at 212 degrees F and Alcohol boils at 172 degrees F [or 78.5 degrees C], thus alcohol will gas off at temperatures below boiling.)
What type of vegetable capsules does PRL use? PRL uses 100% pure, preservative-free Vcaps (vegetable capsules) from Capsugel which dissolve rapidly, regardless of the food temperature, unlike gelatin capsules which are hard to digest, temperature-sensitive, contain toxic preservatives and carry the risk of “mad cow” prion exposure. Capsugel Vcaps are also starch-free, gluten-free, and are also Kosher and Halal certified. PRL also does not use Chinese vegetable capsules which often contain solvent residues.
Why is starch-free important? Cellulose starch is made from plant material that is used as a filler, binder and disintegrant. Starches processed from corn contain free glutamate (MSG), resulting from processing. MSG is a known neurotoxin.
What is a Violite Container? PRL proucts that are not packaged in Amber colored glass bottles are packaged in non-toxic Dark Violite #2 HDPE containers (patent pending). The Violite bottles are proven to block light between 450-750 nm, the range known to damage nutrients. Violite containers do not migrate toxic polyvinyl into the product like cheap plastic containers.
Where are the manufacture dates printed on the PRL products? The manufacture date is in the Lot # on one end of the label. For example, a lot number that starts with: 110310 means it was bottled March 10th, 2011. PRL products have a 2 year shelf life. Please note that the lot numbers are different than the bar code numbers.
What does "Ayurvedically grown in India and processed by traditional herbal masters" mean? Ayurveda is one of the 3 major forms of medicine practiced in India – it is similar to Chinese medicine in a lot of ways. Ayurveda has a very strong herbal focus and believes that the quality of the herbs is paramount to effective healing. Ayurvedic herbal masters are highly trained to cultivate and harvest herbs in such a way to maximize their healing potential/nutrient level. These Herbal Masters use an Ayurvedic grading system (from 1 to 10, 10 being the best) that was devised over 8,500 years ago in India. It is still used today to distinquish herb quality in the botanical market. PRL only uses grade 10 herbs in their products.
Why does PRL import most of their herbs? Many of their herbs come from remote areas of India and other pristine growing regions of the world. PRL selects locations that have minimal exposure to pesticides and chemicals. The herbs grown in these regions have a much higher nutrient level than those grown in the US.
My health practitioner wants me to take a lot of pills. Do you have any advice? Yes. The good new is that PRL's products work better than anything else on the market, so if you are willing to do "the work", you can expect to see some amazing health benefits. The bad news is, that depending on your issues, age, and weight you may need to swallow a lot of pills and/or supplement liquids initially. Typically, most treatment regimes last 2-4 months, but some can take 4-12 months to complete, depending on the issue. You can go as slow or fast as your body will allow.
When you have a lot of pills to swallow: We recommend taking your capsules with food (in the middle of a meal or just after a meal). Swallowing capsules on an empty stomach can make some people feel nauseated or give them the sensation that one of the capsules is stuck in their throat. Our favorite method (if possible) is to chew a bit of food up and then stick 2-4 capsules in your mouth and swallow them down together (this way, you don't dilute your digestive juices with a lot of water). It is pretty common for people with low levels of hydrochloric acid in their stomach to feel nauseated when they swallow pills on an empty stomach*. If you don't have time to eat, but still need to take your pills, swallowing them with a big glass of juice makes it easier. Thicker juices are better than thin juices, so orange juice is a perfect low maintenance option.
The lubrication technique: Another easy method of swallowing pills is to fill a small dish with PRL's olive oil and briefly roll each capsule in the olive oil until it is coated - then swallow the capsule. The oil acts as a lubricant and makes it go down smoothly.
I am taking pH Trio and Max Stress B Nano. Can I put the coral powder, aloe powder, and max stress B nano in the same glass? Yes. Most people put all of their nano liquids and coral/aloe mixture in the same water bottle and drink in slowly throughout the day. Drinking it slowly is better than gulping it down quickly. If you drink it slowly, you will get more benefit from smaller dosages and require a shorter overall treatment period (most of the nano liquids have a ~45 min half life). PRL doesn't recommend pre-mixing your nano mixture more than 1 day in advance (Most water bottles are clear and do not protect the nanos against light - so the nutrients may begin to break down if left "exposed" too long).
I don't like the way some of the nano liquids taste. Do you have any suggestions? We add a few drops of liquid stevia or stevia powder (a natural plant sweetener) to our nano drinks to improve the flavor. Stevia is nice because it doesn't effect blood sugar and has zero calories. Stevia is also a wonderful sweetener for hot or cold tea. You can also put the nanos in your favorite fruit juice (ex: pomegranite juice or orange juice). Avoid artificial fruit juices or those sweetened with corn syrup or white sugar.
Do you recommend a certain brand of stevia? We prefer the stevia brand called SweetLeaf for powdered stevia. SweetLeaf uses purified water to extract the stevia from its plant source (other companies may use chemical solvents or alcohol). We only recommend the following SweetLeaf products: SweetLeaf Stevia Extract Powder Packets, and Stevia Plus packets. Do not buy any of SweetLeaf's liquid stevia products (regular, vanilla, orange, toffee, choc raspberry, etc). Sweetleaf added 'natural flavors' to their unflavored liquid stevia (~late 2009), so we no longer recommend their unflavored liquid stevia product. We do not have a liquid stevia replacement at this time.
Why should I avoid corn syrup and white sugar? Highly refined food products (such as corn syrup and white sugar) have been stripped of their vitamins, minerals and enzymes in order to create a shelf stable food that has a neutral flavor. Unfortunately, these nutrients are essential for the digestion and assimilation of the refined food. Mother nature designed whole foods with all the nutrients required for your body to break them down. When these nutrients are absent, your body pulls nutrients from its own cells to complete the process. Overtime, eating refined foods can cause nutrient deficiencies.
Most of the Nanos recommend you take them with 4 oz of water. Can I use more water? Yes. The 4 oz is a starting point. If you are taking several nanos at one time, it taste better to dilute them in more water (16 oz+).
Some of the PRL products recommend making a tea. How do you make a tea out of a capsule? For some products, like Stomach Complex, it is more beneficial to make a tea instead of swallowing the capsules whole. For other products, weak or chronically ill clients may want to start with a low dose and build up - a tea is a great starting point.
To make a tea: Open and pour the contents of 2 capsules into a cup (discard the empty capsules). Add 1 cup of boiling water to the cup. Cover and wait for 10 minutes. Let cool, then drink. To improve flavor, you can use stevia or honey to sweeten the tea.
