Blood spot testing for 25-hydroxyvitamin D, also known as 25(OH)D.

Detects deficiencies in Vitamin D (independently monitoring both Vitamin D2 and D3 status by LC-MS/MS) as a potential cause of health problems ranging from osteoporosis to cardiovascular disease.

Vitamin D Deficiency: Will you know when it's too late? ZRT now offers a simple, convenient and accurate test for screening Vitamin D levels.

Many physicians are responding to recent research linking a variety of disease states and general wellness to Vitamin D levels. Vitamin D deficiency (levels measured below 32 ng/ml) does not have obvious symptoms and can increase your risk for more serious diseases including flu, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and multiple sclerosis. Some experts suggest that levels should be > 50 ng/ml for optimal health. In addition, an increased risk for strokes, diabetes (types 1 and 2), depression, and breast and colon cancer are closely linked to Vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D Testing Made Simple

ZRT has developed and refined Vitamin D testing (both D2 and D3) in dried blood spots. A few drops of blood from a quick and nearly painless nick of the finger are placed on a filter paper to dry. This can be performed easily either at a health practitioner's office or the convenience of home. The dried blood spot sample is then sent to ZRT for analysis. With ZRT's innovative blood spot test, there is no more wasted time and resources going to a lab for a painful blood draw.

Once ZRT has received your dried blood spot sample, your results will be available in about a week. As you continue to monitor your Vitamin D levels, ZRT will generate a "history" test report with your newest test results compared with previous tests. This will enable your health care provider to recommend the right dose of supplementation, if necessary, and then track your treatment progress. If you have additional questions about Vitamin D or blood spot testing, please ask your doctor, pharmacist, or other trained health care provider.

Blood spot testing of Vitamin D can help:
  • Identifying vitamin D deficiency as a potential cause of health problems.
  • Recommend the right dose of vitamin D as a supplement
  • Monitor your D levels during supplementation to ensure you have adequate levels without overdosing.
  • Understand appropriate ways to safely increase sunlight exposure and modify your diet to include more vitamin D-containing foods and/supplements
  • Track treatment progress
Results: Three different values will be calculated. Results will be measured in nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml).
  1. Vitamin D, 25-OH, D2: Vitamin D2 (ergosterol) levels. If you are not supplementing with D2, you should see 0 or <4 ng/ml as your result.
  2. Vitamin D, 25-OH, D3: Intrinsic Vitamin D3 (made by the sun) + your Vitamin D3 supplement absorption (if any).
  3. Vitamin D, 25-OH, Total (D2 + D3):
How accurate is ZRT's vitamin D test? ZRT is very accurate and corresponds very well to the results given by both LabCorp and DiaSorin RIA, whose method is considered the “Gold Standard” in vitamin D testing.

What should I expect after I send in my test? Your results are returned to you within 5 to 7 business days from the date ZRT receives your sample. The test report includes:

  • A graph showing where your hormone levels fall within set ranges. Levels can be either within or out of normal range.
  • A second graph detailing the symptoms you listed on your self-evaluation form. Symptoms are grouped according to the indicated category of hormonal imbalance. Symptoms are also correlated with the hormone levels identified through ZRT testing.
  • A comment field providing an individualized review of your hormone evaluation.

Contains: 1 Vitamin D Test Kit (Blood Spot). Includes a pre-paid UPS-Ground shipping label and envelope to return your specimen to ZRT Labs [ZRT labs is located in Oregon].
